Mel Reynolds is a former American politician and civil rights activist. He was born on January 8, 1952, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Reynolds served as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Illinois' 2nd district from 1993 to 1995.
Reynolds was known for his advocacy on issues such as education, healthcare, and criminal justice reform. However, his political career was marred by legal troubles. In 1995, he was convicted on charges of sexual assault, obstruction of justice, and solicitation of child pornography. He resigned from his position in Congress and served several years in prison.
After his release, Reynolds attempted to re-enter politics several times but was unsuccessful. He has also been involved in various business ventures and advocacy work. Despite his past controversies, Reynolds continues to be a prominent figure in the Chicago area.
